Sorry. The "neighborhood" does not get to suspend the Constitution. This country was founded specifically and exclusively on the basis of religious freedom. That's why the original settlers got on boats and came here. It's one of the core principles of what makes this country what it is.

Exactly how far from ground zero would the opponents of this mosque propose that our constitutional rights can resume to take effect? 8 blocks? 10? 50?

There's an Islamic prayer center inside the Pentagon today. Has been since 2002. People died there on 911 also. Should that be torn down?

I don't disagree, I was just making a contrast between decision-making based on real knowledge of Manhattan and how it works (the economic, cultural dynamics) vs. decisions based on hate and fear by people with NO understanding of how Manhattan works.

Nick--in the video you say, "let the neighborhood decide this." I believe that's a step in the right direction, in that it takes it away from being a national issue, to being a local issue. How about making it a person-person issue, like it should be?

Why should the nation or even a neighborhood be able to step in the middle of transaction between two parties where no one is getting hurt?

I have no use for Nazis, but I'll defend to my last breath their rights to peaceably assemble and speak freely and transact business. I have no right to tell them they can't, even if it's in my neighborhood.

In the blog, you mention that the market should decide. I like that a lot more.

Let the marketplace of ideas flourish . . . unencumbered. Freedom and prosperity tend to bloom when we do!
